About the Coalition
The National Coalition to Protect Family Leave is a broad-based, non-partisan group of organizations, companies and associations dedicated to protecting the integrity of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
The Coalition supports public policy that will: 1) Strengthen the Family and Medical Leave Act to ensure FMLA leave is available to those employees Congress intended to cover, and 2) End the misuse of medical leave that threatens the integrity of this important law.
The Coalition advocates making technical corrections to the FMLA and the implementing regulations to ensure that the application of the law is consistent with congressional intent. These changes include:
- restoring the meaning of "serious health condition" to the original Congressional intent;
- improving notification requirements to reduce work disruptions which have an adverse impact on employees; and
- streamlining record keeping.
In addition, the Coalition believes these changes must be made prior to any expansions of the Act.
